About this design
A curving branch of DMC 839 Beige Brown Dark, shaded underneath in 838, runs across the top of the design with four pointed leaves in 988 Forest Green Medium, each with a 986 centre vein. Two oval lemons hang below on short stalks. Each lemon is 307 Lemon on the left and 444 Lemon Dark on the right, which makes it look round, and a tiny highlight of 3078 Golden Yellow Very Light sits near the top. The colours are fresh and bright, ideal for a kitchen.
How to work it
Stitch the branch first from left to right, then the leaves, working each one from its stem to its tip. Hang the lemon stalks from the branch, then fill each lemon, light half first. The leaves are angled shapes; count the edge of each one carefully against the chart, since a single stitch out of place changes its angle.
Finishing ideas
At 32 × 24 stitches the design is about 2.3 × 1.7 inches (5.8 × 4.4 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.8 × 1.3 inches on 18-count. Stitch it on a tea towel, an apron pocket or a little framed piece for the kitchen; it also pairs well with the lemon slice needlepoint.
Colour plan
DMC 307 Lemon does the most work, 38% of the 298 stitches, followed by DMC 444 Lemon Dark at 17%. DMC 3078 Golden Yellow Vy Lt (4) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 61% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
5 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 15 times.
