About this design
The upper wings are DMC 797 Royal Blue, with an inner panel of 3843 Electric Blue around a bright B5200 Snow White eye spot. The smaller lower wings are 3325 Baby Blue Light with 3755 Baby Blue markings. Everything is outlined in 939 Navy Blue Very Dark, which also forms the slim body and two curled antennae. The colours suggest a morpho or a common blue butterfly without copying either exactly.
How to work it
Stitch the navy body and outline first, starting at the centre column; the wings are mirror images, so complete one side and copy it on the other. Fill the royal blue, then the electric blue panels and the white spots.
Finishing ideas
At 25 × 15 stitches the design is about 1.8 × 1.1 inches (4.5 × 2.7 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.4 × 0.8 inches on 18-count. Use it on a card, a hair clip cover or a small framed piece; a row of butterflies makes a pretty border on a shelf edge.
Colour plan
DMC 939 Navy Blue Very Dark does the most work, 48% of the 251 stitches, followed by DMC 797 Royal Blue at 26%. DMC 3755 Baby Blue (8) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 33% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
22 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 18 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
