About this design
The egg is drawn as a gentle oval, slightly narrower at the top. The top cap is DMC 3609 Plum Ultra Light, followed by a 727 Topaz Very Light band, a sea green band of 3812 and 964 blocks and a 3755 Baby Blue base, with rows of 3608 Plum Very Light sprinkled with B5200 Snow White dots between the bands. The bands make it look like a hand-painted egg, and every band uses only one or two colours.
How to work it
Work band by band from the top, following the curved edge of the egg on each row. The sea green band alternates two colours in blocks, and the white dots are single stitches on a diagonal. Stitch several eggs with the bands in a different order for a set.
Finishing ideas
At 20 × 23 stitches the design is about 1.4 × 1.6 inches (3.6 × 4.2 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.1 × 1.3 inches on 18-count. Use it for Easter cards, a tea towel or a small hanging decoration on an Easter tree.
Colour plan
DMC 3609 Plum Ultra Light does the most work, 24% of the 264 stitches, followed by DMC 3608 Plum Very Light at 23%. Every colour is used at least 16 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 43% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
21 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 10 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
