About this design
A red cherry (321) with a single green stem stitch sits on swirls of Rose Light (3326) frosting, with a darker Rose (899) edge and swirl lines. Below, the paper case is vertical stripes of Baby Blue (3755) and Baby Blue Medium (334). It is small and quick, and it suits a birthday card or a baker’s gift.
Stitch counts: 45 in 3326 (Rose Light), 40 in 3755 (Baby Blue), 38 in 334 (Baby Blue Medium), 36 in 899 (Rose Medium), 13 in 321 (Red) and 1 in 3346 (Hunter Green), 173 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
The case stripes alternate every column, so count them in pairs as you go across. Two strands of floss on 14-count Aida give good coverage, and working each colour in rows of half stitches, then coming back to cross them, keeps the stitches neat and even.
Finishing ideas
On 14-count Aida the 17 × 15 stitch design comes out at about 1.2 × 1.1 inches, and on 18-count about 0.9 × 0.8 inches. Mount it in a 4-inch hoop, or use it for a birthday card or a gift tag.
Colour plan
DMC 3326 Rose Light does the most work, 26% of the 173 stitches, followed by DMC 3755 Baby Blue at 23%. DMC 3346 Hunter Green (1) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 32% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
1 square stands alone in its colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 16 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
