About this design

Night scenes suit brick mosaics because the dark background makes every light piece shine. Here the sky starts dark blue at the top, shifts to dark purple lower down and picks up a faint sand-blue glow just above the treeline, with checkered rows between the colours so the changes are gradual. A crescent moon in pale yellow hangs in the upper right, and stars are scattered across the sky as single white pieces, two of them bigger, with bright yellow points around a white centre. Along the bottom, a row of dark green pine trees with stepped, layered branches stands against the glow, on a strip of black ground.

How to build it

The mosaic fits one 32 × 32 baseplate, about 25.6 cm (10 inches) square. Work from the bottom up if you like to get the trees in place first; their stepped edges are the fiddliest part. The single-piece stars are easy to lose track of, so tick them off on the printed chart as you place them. It makes a calm piece for a bedroom or nursery wall, and a dark frame suits it well.

Colour plan

Dark blue does the most work, 31% of the 1,024 pieces, followed by Dark green at 29%. Bright yellow (8) and White (7) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

On a baseplate, grouping each row's same-coloured studs into 1×N plates (up to 1×8) builds it from about 304 parts instead of 1,024 single studs.
