About this design

This landscape is wider than it is tall, so it uses one and a half baseplates’ worth of width. The sky shades from medium blue at the top through sky blue to light aqua near the peaks. Two layers of mountains give it depth: the far peaks are mid grey with darker diagonal streaks and white snow caps, and the nearer ridges are a cooler sand blue with their own touches of snow. A band of dark green forest with an uneven, spiky top runs along the shore. Below the shoreline, the whole scene is mirrored in the lake in darker blues, broken by a few light streaks that suggest ripples on the water.

How to build it

At 48 × 32 pieces the mosaic is about 38.4 × 25.6 cm (15 × 10 inches). Build it on two 32 × 32 baseplates side by side, leaving the last 16 columns of the right-hand plate free, or on one 48 × 48 plate with the top 16 rows free. The bold lines on the chart fall every 16 pieces, so every second one marks a plate edge. Build the forest and shoreline first, since everything above and below is measured from it.

Colour plan

Dark green does the most work, 23% of the 1,536 pieces, followed by Dark blue at 18%. Light aqua (9) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

On a baseplate, grouping each row's same-coloured studs into 1×N plates (up to 1×8) builds it from about 475 parts instead of 1,536 single studs.
