About this design
Three heart shapes sit one inside the other, each a few knots smaller than the last: a broad outer ring of Scarlet, a middle ring of Hot Pink and a soft Blush heart in the centre. The cream background shows a little around all four sides. With only four colours and smooth curves, it is a quick and satisfying project for a bedroom rug or a Valentine’s cushion.
How to make it
Work on 3.75-mesh rug canvas with one knot of pre-cut yarn in each square of the chart. At 36 × 36 knots the finished piece is about 24 × 24 cm (9.6 × 9.6 in), so cut your canvas with at least five extra squares on every side for turning under. The chart needs 1,296 knots in total; the materials list gives the count for each colour. Work across the canvas row by row from the bottom up, so the pile of the finished rows lies away from you. Work from the bottom point upwards; the rows get wider as you go and the curves are easy to follow.
Colour plan
Cream does the most work, 37% of the 1,296 knots, followed by Scarlet at 26%. Every colour is used at least 206 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
Hook it in 36 rows from the bottom; the busiest row changes colour 8 times, so cut yarn for a few rows at a time. No square stands alone in its colour.
