About this design

A row of hearts is probably the most requested bracelet among friends, and two colours keep this version quick. The hearts are DMC 3804 Cyclamen Pink Dark, a saturated hot pink, and the background is 818 Baby Pink, so the whole bracelet stays in one colour family and the hearts stand out by depth rather than contrast. Each heart is 9 knots wide and 8 rows tall, with three plain rows between hearts so they read as separate shapes rather than a wavy line.

How to work it

Use 13 base strings for the 13-knot width, one cyclamen and one baby pink working string. The two rounded tops are the tricky part: the notch between them is a single background knot in the centre column, and it has to land exactly in the middle for the heart to look even. The hearts then narrow by one knot on each side per row down to a one-knot point in that same centre column. If the point drifts sideways, recount the row where the narrowing began.

Length and gift ideas

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 44-row chart is about 8.8 cm. Seven hearts (77 rows) come to around 15.5 cm and eight hearts (88 rows) to about 17.5 cm, so choose the count that fits the wrist. For a matching pair, knot one bracelet as charted and swap the colours on the second, with baby pink hearts on a cyclamen ground. A red version in DMC 321 suits Valentine’s Day.
