About this design
Each toadstool has a domed cap of Y24 Scarlet with three Y01 Snow spots and a two-stitch white stem, on a Y41 Sage ground. The caps are four rows tall and the stems three, so the motif is compact and works even on small projects such as socks and baby hats. The cap rows use three colours where the spots appear; work those spots in duplicate stitch if you prefer two-colour stranding.
Knitting the chart
The motif repeats every 10 stitches, and the chart shows 5 repeats across 50 stitches. Rows use one, two or three colours. The longest float is 9 stitches, so catch long floats behind the work every three to five stitches. Knit the stems with the white held as the dominant colour so they stand out clearly.
Sizing and uses
At 20 stitches and 28 rows per 10 cm, the 50-stitch chart is 25 cm wide and the 9 rows are about 3.2 cm tall. Any stitch count that is a multiple of 10 works: 60 or 70 for a baby hat, 90 or 100 for an adult hat.
Colour plan
Sage does the most work, 64% of the 450 stitches, followed by Scarlet at 26%. Every colour is used at least 45 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
The longest float is 9 stitches, and 7 rows have a float longer than 5 that should be caught on the wrong side. 3 rows use three or more colours; work those with bobbins (intarsia) or duplicate-stitch the extra colour afterwards.
