About this design
The duck is Canary Bright (973) with a Canary Deep (972) outline and wing, a Tangerine (740) beak and a Black eye with a tiny Blanc shine. It sits on two rows of Sky Blue Light (3761) water. Bright yellow is cheerful in a bathroom or a nursery, and it is an easy, quick stitch.
Stitch counts: 116 in 973 (Canary Bright), 57 in 972 (Canary Deep), 28 in 3761 (Sky Blue Light), 9 in 740 (Tangerine), 3 in 310 (Black) and 1 in BLANC (White), 214 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Find the centre of your fabric and of the chart, and begin there so the design sits in the middle. Stitch the darker outline first, then fill the bright yellow inside it. Two strands on 14-count is the usual choice.
Finishing ideas
Finished, it measures roughly 1.4 × 1.2 inches on 14-count (1.1 × 0.9 inches on 18-count), so a 4-inch hoop suits it. It is also the right size for a baby card or a nursery picture.
Colour plan
DMC 973 Canary Bright does the most work, 54% of the 214 stitches, followed by DMC 972 Canary Deep at 27%. DMC 740 Tangerine (9), DMC 310 Black (3) and DMC BLANC White (1) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 34% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
6 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
