About this design
The tower tapers gently from base to top and is banded in DMC 321 Red and White, four rows per band. A dark 3371 door sits near the bottom. At the top, a lamp room of 726 Topaz Light is framed in 3799 Pewter Gray Very Dark, with a stepped grey roof above it, and two beams of pale 3078 Golden Yellow Very Light shine out to each side. The lighthouse stands on a strip of 3820 Straw Dark and 3045 Yellow Beige Dark sand.
How to work it
Stitch the grey lamp room and roof first, then build the tower downwards band by band; the tower widens slowly, so check the edge of each band. Add the light beams and sand last.
Finishing ideas
At 22 × 38 stitches the design is about 1.6 × 2.7 inches (4.0 × 6.9 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.2 × 2.1 inches on 18-count. The tall format suits a bookmark, a narrow frame or a coastal-themed card; stitch it on blue Aida for an instant sky.
Colour plan
DMC BLANC White does the most work, 25% of the 416 stitches, followed by DMC 321 Red at 21%. DMC 3371 Black Brown (8) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 50% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
No square stands alone in its colour, so every colour works up in solid blocks. The busiest row changes colour 16 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
