About this design
The shell is a fan of Coral Light (352) with ribs of Coral Medium (350) spreading out from the hinge. The hinge at the bottom is a small band of Mahogany Ultra Very Light (3856) edged in Apricot (3341). Warm corals look lovely on cream or light blue fabric.
Stitch counts: 85 in 352 (Coral Light), 62 in 350 (Coral Medium), 16 in 3341 (Apricot) and 12 in 3856 (Mahogany Ult Vy Lt), 175 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Follow the ribs outwards from the hinge, one line at a time, then fill between them. Keep all your top stitches crossing in the same direction; it is the one habit that makes a finished piece look tidy. Two strands on 14-count Aida work well.
Finishing ideas
At 19 × 13 stitches the design is about 1.4 × 0.9 inches on 14-count Aida and 1.1 × 0.7 inches on 18-count. A 4-inch hoop leaves room to frame it, and it also makes a card or a coaster.
Colour plan
DMC 352 Coral Light does the most work, 49% of the 175 stitches, followed by DMC 350 Coral Medium at 35%. Every colour is used at least 12 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 29% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
4 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
