About this design
Four rounded leaves in DMC 702 Kelly Green meet in the middle, with thin gaps between them so each leaf stays distinct. A cross of 699 Green veins runs through the centre of the leaves, and a short 3346 Hunter Green stem drops from the bottom. With just three greens it is very quick, and it makes a classic good-luck gift for exams, new jobs and St Patrick’s Day.
How to work it
Stitch the dark vein cross first: it divides the design into four quarters, and each leaf then fills one quarter. Leave the diagonal gaps between the leaves unstitched. Finish with the stem.
Finishing ideas
At 21 × 22 stitches the design is about 1.5 × 1.6 inches (3.8 × 4.0 cm) on 14-count Aida and 1.2 × 1.2 inches on 18-count. Add it to a good-luck card, a bookmark or a keyring fob, or stitch a row along a scarf.
Colour plan
DMC 702 Kelly Green does the most work, 73% of the 126 stitches, followed by DMC 699 Green at 19%. Every colour is used at least 10 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. 73% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
No square stands alone in its colour, so every colour works up in solid blocks. The busiest row changes colour 8 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
