About this design
The lamp is Terra Cotta (3830) with a lighter rim and base (3778) and two rows of Topaz (725) dots. The flame rises from the wick in three layers: Tangerine (740) outside, Tangerine Light (742) inside and a Yellow Ultra Pale (3823) core. It makes a warm Diwali card, and several in a row make a festive border.
Stitch counts: 73 in 3830 (Terra Cotta), 17 in 742 (Tangerine Light), 14 in 740 (Tangerine), 11 in 3778 (Terra Cotta Light), 11 in 725 (Topaz Med Lt) and 9 in 3823 (Yellow Ultra Pale), 135 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Stitch the flame from the outside in, then the lamp body below it. Two strands of floss on 14-count Aida give good coverage, and working each colour in rows of half stitches, then coming back to cross them, keeps the stitches neat and even.
Finishing ideas
Finished, it measures roughly 1.4 × 1.2 inches on 14-count (1.1 × 0.9 inches on 18-count), so a 4-inch hoop suits it. It is also the right size for a Diwali card or a border.
Colour plan
DMC 3830 Terra Cotta does the most work, 54% of the 135 stitches, followed by DMC 742 Tangerine Light at 13%. DMC 3823 Yellow Ultra Pale (9) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 58% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
13 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 14 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
