About this design
The ghost is Blanc outlined in Steel Gray Dark (414), with two square Black eyes, a small open mouth and Dusty Rose (3716) cheeks. Its hem has three rounded points, and two stubby arms stick out at the sides. It is friendly rather than scary, so it suits younger stitchers and a Halloween card.
Stitch counts: 159 in BLANC (White), 52 in 414 (Steel Gray Dk), 10 in 310 (Black) and 4 in 3716 (Dusty Rose Med Vy Lt), 225 full cross stitches in all. One skein of each colour is plenty.
How to work it
Use two strands on 14-count Aida and start from the middle: fold the fabric in four to find the centre and match it to the centre of the chart. Stitch the grey outline first, then the face, then fill with Blanc.
Finishing ideas
On 14-count Aida the 17 × 17 stitch design comes out at about 1.2 × 1.2 inches, and on 18-count about 0.9 × 0.9 inches. Mount it in a 4-inch hoop, or use it for a Halloween card or a treat-bag patch.
Colour plan
DMC BLANC White does the most work, 71% of the 225 stitches, followed by DMC 414 Steel Gray Dk at 23%. DMC 3716 Dusty Rose Med Vy Lt (4) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. 22% of the grid is left empty.
Working notes
8 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side; stitch those as you pass rather than starting a new thread for each. The busiest row changes colour 12 times.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
