About this design

Candy corn is one of the most recognisable Halloween treats, and its three stripes translate perfectly into knots. Each sweet is a stepped triangle with a B5200 Snow White tip, a 740 Tangerine middle and a wide 444 Lemon Dark base, set on a background of 550 Violet Very Dark that makes the bright colours glow. All four sweets point the same way, with a plain row between them, so the bracelet reads clearly at a glance.

Setting up and knotting

A 12-knot-wide bracelet needs 12 base strings, plus one working string in each of the four colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins so they don’t tangle. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. The purple background uses the most string by far (292 of the 492 knots), so give it the longest length.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 41-row chart makes about 8 cm of bracelet. Knot it twice (82 rows) for about 16 cm, which fits most adult wrists, or stop after one and a half repeats for a child. Finish each end with a braid or a sliding knot so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 550 Violet Very Dark does the most work, 59% of the 492 knots, followed by DMC 444 Lemon Dark at 21%. Every colour is used at least 32 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 41 knot rows of 12 knots; the busiest row changes colour 2 times. No square stands alone in its colour.
