About this design

These toadstools have a domed cap in DMC 666 Bright Red with a darker 498 Red Dark rim along the bottom, and white spots in B5200 Snow White scattered across the top. The stem is Snow White too, with a little 822 Beige Gray Light shading at the base on one side. The background is 3348 Yellow Green Light, which suggests grass and keeps the design fresh rather than dark and woodland. Three mushrooms fill the chart with three plain rows between each one.

Setting up and knotting

A 12-knot-wide bracelet needs 12 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 5 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. Change to the red rim row carefully, because it is the only row where the cap colour changes all the way across.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 39-row chart makes about 8 cm of bracelet. Knotting the chart twice (78 rows) gives about 16 cm, which fits most adult wrists; stop sooner for a child. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 3348 Yellow Green Lt does the most work, 58% of the 468 knots, followed by DMC 666 Bright Red at 22%. DMC 822 Beige Gray Light (9) is used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 39 knot rows of 12 knots; the busiest row changes colour 6 times. 15 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side.
