About this design

This one is for anyone who likes their bracelets with a bit of a desert-road feel. Each arrowhead is a two-knot line of DMC 3826 Golden Brown with a second, paler line of 3064 Desert Sand following a few rows behind, so the arrows look as if they are moving. The background is 3866 Mocha Brown Ultra Very Light, a warm cream that sits better with the browns than a stark white would. It pairs nicely with wooden beads or a leather cord.

How to work it

Set up 13 base strings for the 13-knot width and one working string per colour. Cream makes up well over half the knots, so give that bobbin the most thread. Because the width is an odd number there is a true centre column, and every arrow comes to its point there, on a single knot. If a point lands one column off-centre, you have miscounted earlier in the row, so it is worth checking the tip of each arrowhead before you carry on. Watch the tension where the brown lines step inwards; tight knots there pull the edges of the bracelet into a wave.

Length and finishing

Each arrow takes 9 rows. The 45-row chart is five arrows, about 9 cm at roughly 2 mm per row; work nine arrows (81 rows, about 16 cm) for an average wrist, and always finish on a complete point so the ends match. Two plaited ties in golden brown and a sliding knot make it easy to put on single-handed.

DMC 3866 Mocha Brn Ult Vy Lt does the most work, 59% of the 585 knots, followed by DMC 3826 Golden Brown at 22%. Every colour is used at least 110 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
