About this design

Six colours step through a sunset in order: DMC 550 Violet Very Dark, 208 Lavender Very Dark, 3607 Plum Light, 3705 Melon Dark, 740 Tangerine and 973 Canary Bright. Each colour forms a V across the band, two rows deep, and the sequence repeats so the bracelet seems to glow from purple to gold and back. The point of each V sits at the centre of the band, so the design is symmetrical and easy to check: the left and right halves should always mirror each other.

Setting up and knotting

A 12-knot-wide bracelet needs 12 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 6 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. Use the centre of each row as your guide; if the two sides of a V do not match, you have miscounted on one side.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 60-row chart makes about 12 cm of bracelet. That is close to an adult wrist already; add a few plain rows at the ends if you need more. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 3607 Plum Light does the most work, 17% of the 720 knots, followed by DMC 208 Lavender Very Dark at 17%. Every colour is used at least 120 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
