About this design
The slice is a full circle: an outer rind of Kelly Green, a band of Lime inside it, a ring of Snow white pith and ten Mint segments separated by thin white lines that meet at a white centre. The cream background fills the corners, and you can trim it away to make a round rug. Fruit-slice rugs are a fun, fresh accent for a kitchen, bathroom or child’s room.
How to make it
Work on 3.75-mesh rug canvas with one knot of pre-cut yarn in each square of the chart. At 36 × 36 knots the finished piece is about 24 × 24 cm (9.6 × 9.6 in), so cut your canvas with at least five extra squares on every side for turning under. The chart needs 1,296 knots in total; the materials list gives the count for each colour. Work across the canvas row by row from the bottom up, so the pile of the finished rows lies away from you. To make a round rug, hook the slice, then fold the canvas edge under along the outer rind and bind it.
Colour plan
Mint does the most work, 29% of the 1,296 knots, followed by Cream at 27%. Every colour is used at least 124 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
Hook it in 36 rows from the bottom; the busiest row changes colour 16 times, so cut yarn for a few rows at a time. 8 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side.
