Heart C2C blanket graph

About this design

Sometimes the simplest graph makes the best gift. This blanket has a single, generously rounded heart in Y22 Hot Pink, set on a field of Y01 Snow and framed by a border of Y20 Blush two blocks wide. Because the heart is large and solid, the colour changes are few and the blanket grows quickly, which makes it a popular choice for a first C2C graph or a last-minute baby shower present.

How to crochet it

Begin in a corner with blush: the first four diagonals are blush only, and snow white appears on the fifth. From then on, each diagonal has a blush section at each end and snow or pink in between, so you will need small bobbins of blush for both sides of the work. Snow is the largest colour at 676 blocks, with 620 of hot pink for the heart and 304 of blush for the frame. Weave in ends as you go: a blanket for a baby should have securely fastened tails.

Size and finishing

In DK yarn with 2 cm blocks the blanket comes to about 80 cm square, a good pram or cot size. Worked in worsted yarn with 2.5 cm blocks it grows to about 100 cm, a lap throw for a teenager or a sofa. For a cushion, use a fine yarn and a small hook so each block is around 1 cm, giving a 40 cm cover front. Choose a machine-washable yarn for anything meant for a baby.

Colour plan

Snow does the most work, 42% of the 1,600 blocks, followed by Hot Pink at 39%. Every colour is used at least 304 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
