About this design
This bracelet is a little slice of sea: curling wave crests that roll along the band in four tones. DMC 3842 Wedgewood Very Dark gives the deep water, 3846 Turquoise Bright Light the sunlit middle, 747 Peacock Blue Very Light the shallows and B5200 Snow White the foam. Each colour is used for exactly the same number of knots, so the stripes stay balanced and no single shade dominates. It makes a good holiday souvenir to knot on a beach towel or in the car on the way there.
How to work it
You need 14 base strings and four working strings, one per colour. With four bobbins on the go, keep them in the same order on your board, deep to pale, so you can grab the right one without looking. The waves are built from curved crests that overlap the band below, and each colour reaches across most of the width at its widest point. That means long runs of one colour followed by quick changes at the curl of the crest, where most miscounts happen. The 12-row repeat is easy to recognise once you have knotted it once.
Length and finishing
At roughly 2 mm per row the 48-row chart comes to about 9.6 cm, four full repeats. Seven repeats (84 rows) make about 17 cm for an adult wrist; six repeats suit a child. Finish with turquoise ties, or knot a short strip and thread a small shell bead onto each tail.
Colour plan
DMC 3842 Wedgewood Vry Dk does the most work, 25% of the 672 knots, followed by DMC B5200 Snow White at 25%. Every colour is used at least 168 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
Working notes
It is 48 knot rows of 14 knots; the busiest row changes colour 4 times. No square stands alone in its colour.
Anchor equivalents
The nearest Anchor colour for each DMC colour in this pattern, measured as ΔE 2000: up to 3 is very close, up to 6 close, up to 10 approximate.
