About this design

Each motif is a pair of cherries hanging from two stems that meet at a leaf at the top. The stems are single knots of DMC 904 Parrot Green Very Dark stepping diagonally, with a knot of 906 Parrot Green Medium for the leaf. The cherries are 321 Red with a darker 815 Garnet Medium edge on the lower right and a single White highlight knot, which makes them look round and shiny. The background is 818 Baby Pink for a sweet, retro look. The diagonal stems make this a step up from simple block motifs.

Setting up and knotting

A 12-knot-wide bracelet needs 12 base strings, plus one working string in each of the 6 colours. Cut the working strings at least a metre long and wind them on bobbins or card so they stay untangled. Each square of the chart is one knot on a base string: forward knots on rows worked left to right, backward knots on rows worked right to left, row by row from the top. Keep an eye on the stems: each row moves the green knot one place sideways, so count from the edge at the start of every row.

Length and finishing

At roughly 2 mm per row, the 39-row chart makes about 8 cm of bracelet. Knotting the chart twice (78 rows) gives about 16 cm, which fits most adult wrists; stop sooner for a child. Finish with a braided tie or a sliding knot at each end so it can be adjusted.

Colour plan

DMC 818 Baby Pink does the most work, 68% of the 468 knots, followed by DMC 321 Red at 21%. DMC BLANC White (6) and DMC 906 Parrot Green Md (3) are used only a little: small details worth marking on the chart so you don't miss them. Every square of the grid is filled.

Working notes

It is 39 knot rows of 12 knots; the busiest row changes colour 8 times. 27 squares stand alone in their colour, with no same-coloured neighbour along a side.
