Hama to Perler bead conversion

The closest Perler® bead for every Hama® midi colour we track, so a pattern written for Hama can be made with Perler beads.

Hama patterns are especially common in Europe, while Perler dominates in North America. Search for a Hama colour number or name and read across to the nearest Perler colour; the swatches let you judge the difference at a glance.

Every match is computed with CIEDE2000, the colour-difference formula that tracks how people actually perceive colour, from our documented RGB values (how colour matching works). The reverse direction, Perler to Hama, is computed separately, because nearest-colour matching is not symmetrical: two Hama colours can share the same closest Perler bead.

To convert a whole pattern, open it in the bead pattern editor and switch the palette to Perler; every colour is remapped and the bead counts update automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Are Hama numbers the same as Perler numbers?

No. The two brands number their colours independently, so a conversion chart is needed.

Will Hama and Perler beads fit the same pegboard?

Midi beads from both brands are about 5 mm and fit standard 5 mm pitch pegboards.

Why do some Hama colours have only approximate matches?

Each brand has colours the other lacks. Where the nearest Perler bead is visibly different, the table says so; choose by eye from the Perler chart in those cases.

Do Hama and Perler beads melt the same way?

Not exactly; they can fuse at slightly different rates. If you mix brands in one piece, test a corner and iron evenly with steady pressure.
