About this design

Think striped paper bags and peppermint rock: two-knot bands of DMC 3706 Melon Medium and 964 Sea Green Light, each separated by a band of B5200 Snow White, slanting across the bracelet at a steady angle. The order runs pink, white, mint, white, so every colour change is cushioned by white and the stripes stay clean even if your tension wobbles. It looks good worn alongside the polka dot and checkerboard designs from this library.

How to work it

Set up 12 base strings and three working strings. White is used for half of all knots, so cut that working string longer than the other two. Every row is simply the row above shifted one knot sideways, which makes the chart easy to memorise: once you have knotted the first 8 rows, which are one full cycle of the colours, you can work the rest by eye. The ends of each row are where mistakes creep in, because the edge knot changes colour every row or two; glance at the chart for the first and last knot of each row and the middle will look after itself.

Length and finishing

The chart is 48 rows, about 9.6 cm at roughly 2 mm per row. Ten cycles of the 8-row repeat (80 rows) come to about 16 cm, a comfortable adult length. Finish with braided ties in one of the stripe colours, or knot a shorter strip of five cycles as a zip pull.

Colour plan

DMC B5200 Snow White does the most work, 50% of the 576 knots, followed by DMC 3706 Melon Medium at 25%. Every colour is used at least 144 times, so there are no tiny one-off details to hunt for. Every square of the grid is filled.
