About this design

The pumpkin is built from three overlapping ovals: two Rust side lobes behind a brighter Pumpkin centre lobe, which gives it a ribbed, rounded look with only two oranges. A Chocolate stem rises from the top with a small Kelly Green vine curling off to the right. The background is Cream, with a band of Sand along the bottom for the table or ground. It is quick to make and works from early autumn through Halloween to Thanksgiving.

Size and yarn

The graph is 30 × 30 blocks and is worked in 59 diagonal rows from the bottom-right corner. With 2.5 cm blocks (worsted yarn and a 5 mm hook) it measures about 75 × 75 cm; with 2 cm blocks in DK yarn it is about 60 × 60 cm. The largest colour is Cream, with 389 of the 900 blocks. The colours are our own named shades, so choose the closest yarn you can buy, and weigh a ten-block swatch to turn the block counts into an accurate yarn amount. Back it with a plaid fabric for a cosy seasonal pillow.
